Wolfsbane (also Monkshood and Aconitum) is finally blooming, just in time for werewolf season. (Note: extremely toxic!)

Repaired a hole in the arm of this thrifted Marks and Spencer extra fine lambswool sweater. Blanket stitched around the outside and then single crocheted in a circle until it was all joined up. Finally remembered to decrease so I didn’t make an oversized patch. 🤣 Not perfect, but wearable.

We got a truckload of mulch a couple of years ago to help us with pathways around the meadow we started in our backyard and around our raised beds. It was … a lot of mulch. Posted to our local Trash Nothing group. Steady visitors for days, everyone with a unique plan for their free mulch.

First year growing Cleome. So pretty and hasn’t hated the heat or drought unlike all the other flowers.

The cats take turns hiding in the plants. As long as they don’t chew on them, I find it charming.

Black and white photo of a large group of men wearing dirty working clothing. Back of the photo (postcard) says: Coal Ship Day at Halifax, N.S. Aug. 3 .. 18, HMS Devonshire. #genealogy #mystery #photo

Serviceberry this year is outstanding.

Ridiculously proud of replacing this float switch in the dehumidifier. Crazy that a $15 part tucked away in a hard-to-access location could result in a $650 dehumidifier not working. 😭

It’s so much fun. Our landlord was not a fan (the 2nd summer we had a less than ideal % of goldenrod and she saw it after the foxes had taken to sleeping in it) but it was so pretty while it lasted. Always some new bloom to check out. We would sit and watch the bees while having tea.

In the spirit of small, achievable goals, I made a quiche for dinner.

Here is our absolute unit of a tree this year.

Our 2 cats destroyed our artificial tree as kittens, scaling and toppling it. If we left town before Christmas, we’d have to take it down first (very depressing). Once we got a real tree, they just… stopped. But we still have lots of bell ornaments as early warning alarms, just in case.

Mapping it out on paper is a great idea so that you know what you know. The William Button (in 1881 census) has a younger sister Rachel in addition to older sister Hannah. Found a marriage certificate for a Rachel Button, with father as William Button (deceased), Joiner.

Finished COLD by Drew Hayden Taylor this afternoon. A slowly creeping tale in a frigid Toronto, the hunting grounds of a monster. By the time you realize what’s happening, it’s too late. #amreading #books

Long weekend reading was unintentionally fungal with books by
@premeemohamed.com and @chuckwendig.bsky.social
I love stories that haunt me. I keep thinking I’m worried about something. But no, that thing happened in the book not to me. It will take some time to recover.
