Research psychologist and general nerd. Community is our light in dark times. Sarcasm is my love language - or maybe just my coping strategy. Settler, trying to know better and do better. She/her
Or maybe this is *exactly* why you put Christmas lights on palm trees

Yes! My aunt & uncle were protesting at No Kings Day in Florida. It was a small group, but my aunt said it was more than she expected. She met some new people in her neighbourhood who think like they do. It gave her some hope to keep fighting, and people to keep fighting with.

It's *not* nothing.

Collective action is *necessary*, but you're right that it's not sufficient. I don't think anyone there would argue otherwise.

I just hate the notion that people sit at home and crap on people trying to do *something* when so many people are just doing nothing.

It's not nothing.

It's a way to introduce people to social action, including increasing much needed political collective action.

I'm not an organizer. But I have learned so much from organizers who are succesfully fighting for their neighbours. @prisonculture.bsky.social @mskellymhayes.bsky.social @indivisible.org

It will help build connections among those attending, who might learn about or plan mutual aid activities to help protect vulnerable members in that community. Look at what's happening in Chicago - it's not nothing.

This will not stop Ice or close that facility. We agree.

But it might remind like-minded regular people in that neighbourhood that they are not alone. Maybe next time, more people will join them.

This won't shut it down, but it doesn't mean nothing. In the past few years, I've come to understand that protest serves several purposes and while it's rarely enough on it's own, it can still have an impact on the marathon you're all up against.

Cynicism and inaction are the real danger, here.

As a teacher, I would have also expected the timeless classic, "I know you are, but what am I?"

This was such a joy to watch this morning! His regeneration will forever be one of the most emotionally devastating television scenes I have ever experienced.

The tenth Doctor will always be #1 in my heart. ❤️

We got a foot of snow yesterday. You need to treasure what few days you may have left. Wear whatever shoes you want out there, while you still can.

AI companies should go under and financially wipe out VCs. exec's should go to prison for putting systems into the world that were instrumental in numerous suicides without any consideration for those risks. there should be consequences for experimenting on the public on roads and in social settings

For the love of humanity why does nobody ask these wankers to show their work

Hmmmm...this is an intriguing possibility that I had not considered. The trick is whether they could successfully scale up the raw heart of a kitchen party. Even still, the Quebec "spectacle" is built for the Eurovision stage.

But I like the idea of it, all around.

The only province that could successfully pull off a Eurovision entry is Quebec

And I'm here for it
