Before practicing independently in the US, Caribbean and other international medical graduates must complete US residency training and obtain board certification, ensuring they meet the same standards as US medical graduates.

They often focus on primary care specialties like Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics, filling crucial gaps in underserved urban areas also. These areas tend to be immigrant / minority communities in NYC and Miami (communities the average Yale or Harvard grad would never set foot in).

The issue here is that she's a TV personality that uses her platform to peddle her own brand of vitamins.

She completed her family medicine residency at University of Arkansas in 2009.

Carribean grads often fill critical gaps in underserved / rural communities where US-trained doctors are scarce.

No proof that she's board certified in Emergency Medicine as is claimed. She did complete her family medicine residency at University of Arkansas in 2009.

Not if the graduate completed US residency training. She completed her residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

On one hand, it's about time we had a family medicine trained surgeon general. On the other, she has no public health credentials and peddles vitamins on TV.

Health impacts are severe with pesticide exposure linked to higher rates of diabetes, depression, and mood disorders in rural areas. The government's 2020 Pesticide Management Bill remains stalled, leaving the industry operating under outdated 1968 laws.

International markets have raised concerns, with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other countries imposing restrictions on Indian cardamom due to pesticide contamination. Despite this, domestic market remains unregulated with no mandatory testing requirements.

The regulatory system is deeply flawed, with 458 retail pesticide dealers in Idukki operating almost unchecked. Banned pesticides are freely available, and political pressure prevents agricultural officers from conducting proper inspections of pesticide shops.

India's cardamom cultivation, centered in Idukki's Cardamom Hill Reserve, uses excessive pesticides - up to 26.2kg per hectare annually. Farmers spray 15-20 rounds yearly instead of recommended 7, using 60+ different pesticides when only 5 are legally approved for cardamom.

Summary:

Kerala's cardamom industry faces a major pesticide crisis, highlighted when the Kerala High Court banned cardamom in Sabarimala temple's aravana due to dangerous pesticide levels. Though later reversed by Supreme Court, this exposed widespread contamination issues in India's spice trade.

India is a net importer of plastic waste, with the US being its largest source, contributing 60,700 metric tons in 2023, ~80% of total plastic waste imports. Remaining imports are from Belgium (556,100 kg), Germany (285,445 kg), China (11,883 kg), and Canada (90,357 kg)

Whose garbage is it again?
