yeah, agreed. the dispossessed certainly isn't airtight in its political-economic logic but it certainly goes above and beyond in depicting "people formed by their particular surroundings and institutions" and i think it's that kind of realism that's needed

gotta retire the "punk" nomenclature since everything after cyberpunk dispensed with the punks entirely. but yeah, for an ostensibly leftist (visual) genre solarpunk seems full of unexamined silicon valley/ right-wing imagery. could call it architectural rendering/consultant-punk

maybe a bit uncharitable, but by its own premise i find "solarpunk" stuff tends to highlight artists' lack of awareness. something more removed from the current world's specific issues, or so immersed in them that one isn't pressured to give exact causes and solutions, is easier to handle

hard to see how this could be lucrative, even with the article being so uncritical of the company's own statements, so i imagine this'll end up the same way as a lot of other "futuristic" space tech start-ups and just vanish

i find it enjoyable as a SF reader to be a little bewildered, but it's harder to find as i get older/more knowledgeable, so i find books like wolfe's really refreshing

that's probably a good way to put it. it's recognizably genre fiction but very different from the usual register of recent genre fiction

I'd love to play 4A with modern-era multiplayer system too
August 5, 2025 at 3:48 PM
Could you imagine if they did a 4/4A re-release? Feels unlikely, but if they did that for armored core mobile...

"Bone folder? Oh no, quite the opposite..."

yeah, so much for doing something different. it's weird too in how *what* they did with the plot (breaking away from the side 6 frame of the intro) was correct, but the execution completely missed the point and feels more like a typical latter-day gundam

Ever since that episode where the Gyan showed up I've had this sinking feeling. There's a lot of fun things going on in the show but at this point greatness might be out of reach

"The Inside Face of the Sky", now in snazzy black-and-white!

I saw this comic mural today! "Paul" is a local slice-of-life series

It's funny, I'm actually more into their 3D mecha than when they draw them 2D! I meant more the very genre-ey action in ep.7, how they handled psycho, and the overall frenetic pacing
May 22, 2025 at 12:51 AM
parts of the action were a bit too "studio khara" for me, but i'm a huge fan of the direction the story is taking
