Dr. Paul Bearer? That’s a niche reference!

When I worked at Disney World in the ‘90’s I welcomed George Lucas and his family through the turnstiles at the Carousel of Progress.

Families fleeing HISD is *exactly* what they want to happen. Self-fulfilling prophecy so they can come in and supposedly save the day with vouchers and charter schools.

The blame rests solely on Abbott’s appointing of Mike Miles (a charter/for-profit school guy) as the temporary superintendent, while simultaneously installing a hand-picked board of “yes men” managers. We have no elected school board members representing what our students and teachers actually need.

Does that mean they are making the assumption that all students in Title 1 schools will be joining the workforce as opposed to, say, college? Nothing at all wrong with joining the workforce, of course, but I can’t believe this is how they are planning to frame it.

Thank you for this! As an HISD parent, I see first-hand how the TEA’s agenda is pushed into our school system, with no thought given if that is the right solution for our students (hint: it’s not). Mike Miles is manipulating things to seem like what he is doing here benefits Abbott’s agenda.

Please, please don’t use generative AI! It’s terrible for the environment and weakens human creativity everywhere. I honestly lose respect for those who use it. Do better.

This is so, so bad for our students. Part of the beauty of HISD is that our students have a lot of choices in magnet schools. This proposal benefits Abbott’s voucher program when he will have literally poached these schools from HISD and call them charter schools instead.

He’s an idiot. Waste of taxpayers’ money.

Doesn’t he have more important things to do? 🙄

This is one of Abbott’s long games - putting a charter school guy (Mike Miles) to run HISD in a hostile takeover in order to eventually transition high-performing schools to charter schools. Thus Abbott’s school voucher bill magically has successful schools! HISD parents like myself say NOPE!

This is a terrible attempt by Mike Miles. He has been tasked by Abbott to destroy public schools and create more private and charter schools. Miles needs to GO!

Benji the police officer with his ill-fitting uniform is in charge of Alfie, the old-timey prisoner. (Don’t let the sign fool you; Alfie is, in fact, a very good boy.)

Thank you for highlighting this. It’s just another way to privatize public schools, all while claiming it’s “autonomy.”

Don’t even give these quacks the space to push this lie. Your headline should be stronger - make is clear that they are WRONG, in no uncertain terms. Otherwise your readers may think he has a point.

Oh please don’t let this happen! We are having so many problems in HISD after the state takeover.
