The Southern Sierra Research Station is a non-profit organization located in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, with satellite offices in New Mexico and Arizona.
We are hiring 1-2 experienced field technicians for the 2026 field season!

If you have experience in avian surveys, MAPS banding, Motus, and/or point counts, we encourage you to apply!

If you prefer an alternative method of application please reach out and we can discuss different approaches!

Another Motus tower is live! Earlier this year, SSRS staff installed a new tower at Honey Lake Wildlife Area in Lassen County, CA.

The first bird detected was a Wilson’s phalarope originally tagged near Doris, CA in August 2024! As you can see in the map, the same bird has traveled across the west!
