It’s not a individual quirk as it is more a rule difference but basketball courts are slightly different sizes between the NBA and college/international basketball. Main difference being the court is slightly larger in the nba which affects defense/scoring because defenders have to cover more ground

I find race track design fascinating for that same reason too. Different layouts/corners can allow different actions for the drivers to take such as where it’s better to pass, etc.

Parents generally being into nerdy things was such a foreign concept to me
I remember going over to a friend’s house in 4th or 5th grade and he warned us before going down to his basement by saying “Make sure not to touch the star wars stuff it’s my dad’s” and I was so taken aback by that
