Overnight, Firefly Aerospace became the first commercial company to successfully land on the Moon. They shared an incredible image from the moon's surface shortly after landing. As Carl Sagan might say..."That's here. That's home. That's us." Earth as a "Pale Blue Dot." Congratulations!

"That's no moon. "It's the planet Venus captured in the daytime sky. Venus, the second planet from the Sun, reflects a lot of sunlight because it is entirely enshrouded in clouds. Venus can be seen in broad daylight if you know where to look. These images were captured through a Celestron CPC 1100.

Mars on 2/26/2025...at approximately 7:50 pm. The north polar cap is visible with the dark markings of Syrtis Major. Possible clouds over Hellas Basin and/or the south polar region.
Imaged with a CPC 1100, 3x Barlow, and ZWO 178 mc pro.

Instant Ice! The hot (nearly boiling) water converts directly from a liquid to tiny ice crystals and gas. This causes the water to look like a big frozen cloud in the air. You need really cold temperatures to do this and it would have worked better if it was a bit colder, but you get the picture.

February did not disappoint with today's Full Snow Moon. This moon is named for the season it falls within, and February is often known for being cold and snowy.
Next month we'll experience a total lunar eclipse with the Full Blood Worm Moon.
