Amor is a strong word reserved for people very close to us, a lover, a relative, a very close friend from long.
We have "cariño", "querer", "aprecio", those are degrees of love, slightly milder than "amor".

I'm non-native with English either, we have "Amor" in Spanish for love.
And there is kinds of love depending on where are those feelings coming from/where are you projecting them; not having an specific word for them either. A look on the types of love according to Greek philosophy might help!

Maybe "romance" is not the right word for this kind of affection xD
Romantic feelings are usually for a potential life partner; but affection toward a mentor is a thing, if it crosses to romantic then it becomes problematic (well, not between two consenting adults).
