SRON researchers Steven de Rooij & Pieter de Visser are building detectors that capture the colour of each photon from faint exoplanets. A little material “disorder” helps absorb more light — but too much leads to signal loss. A key step toward studying distant worlds.

For the first time, astronomers, including Elisa Costantini (SRON/UvA), have directly measured how much sulfur exists in gas and solid form in the interstellar medium. The result helps explain how gas clumps together to form stars and planets.

The astronomical community at large can now play with present and future data of the X-ray observatory XRISM. XRISM is healthy and its data are rich, so we concluded at the very last XRISM consortium science meeting last week. Astronomers, make it's science shine.
