Reading "Ohio nuzzi rizz" to the same cadence as "apple bottom jeans" is the most cursed thing I've seen today, thanks.

I'm honestly kind of disappointed Sword of the Sea didn't get at least a nod for Austin Wintory's music, also just a really great game that flew under the radar. Feels like an evolution from Abzu and The Pathless, and just a really fun time. Like, you're surfing on a sword, what's not to love?

Oh shoot, I genuinely forgot Astro Bot when I was working through this, that probably could take a spot there too.

Realistically this is always going to be in flux, my opinions can change pretty often. I'm still happy with the list overall though.

Honorable mentions that just missed the cut include Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, Pokémon Black/White 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Smash Bros. Brawl, Xenoblade 2, Okami, Persona 5 Royal, and Alan Wake 2. And that's just of ones I could have selected.

I voted! Was really hard to narrow down, and there were lots I hadn't played, including some real classics, but here's my list:

1. Ori and the Blind Forest
2. Banjo-Kazooie
3. Portal 2
4. Super Mario Odyssey
5. Psychonauts 2
6. Zelda: Majora's Mask
7. Returnal
8. Bloodborne
9. Bug Fables
10. VVVVVV

I mean, oof, but also in absolute fairness that terminology also confused me when I first heard it as a kid, made the process seem much scarier than it actually was.

Kirby do, in fact, be Gaming

Say what you will about it either way, but Sakurai has a very particular style all of his games just drip with and I for one respect the hell out of it.

Also his proposed causal mechanism was a preservative compound that, despite never actually being linked to anything, is also no longer used in modern vaccines, so it's just extra embarrassing to still be peddling this nonsense.

Please someone wake me up from the hellscape we reside in now.

The part where he was asked "so what do we do about Trump" and his response was basically "well, trust is important, systems self-correct, it's easy to correct others but don't" just floored me. Like, incoherent babbling aside, how do you not know that is the exact wrong answer?

Sure, why not? Just been trying to complete my dex and they keep adding new packs too fast, more friends are always helpful!

As for vocals, even just in prog metal specifically you're spoiled for choice. Right now I'm settling on a three-part vocal tag team of Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth), Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), and Mike Mills (Toehider), since they all fill pretty different roles.

Okay, done nerding out now.

Reminds me of the time I clocked that three out of five members of Symphony X are named Michael/Mike, and how easily a prog metal supergroup could be built around that. You've got the guitar, keys, and bass in the same band already, and for drums, both of Dream Theater's drummers could work.

How about Billy's Got a Gun by Def Leppard? We need more Billy/Billie songs here.

It's funny because Bulls on Parade was the first song I actually heard by them as a teenager

...Yes, it was because of Guitar Hero...

This is how I learn that he's actually calling this project "Optimus" and all I can think is, 1) he really has no ideas that don't come from sci-fi nostalgia, and 2) the real Optimus would make an exception to his pacifistic tendencies to punt him into space.

Ah yes, two things I can't stand, James Corden, and Frank Sinatra songs

My hot take in this vein - Bloodborne really doesn't need a 60FPS version on PC or PS5. If it gets one, I won't complain, but even at its PS4 cap of 30FPS (and copious dips from that), it's already good enough.

Given what little I know of Halo lore I think you could have stopped that sentence after the first five words

Honestly I feel like I'm in a better position to enjoy Pokémon as a casual fan, someone who likes the games as simple, kid-friendly RPGs that it's fine to enjoy as such (and started liking them as an adult), than the hardcore fans who've been obsessed since childhood and need it to be Perfect™️.

I haven't played either Legends game yet, but everything I've heard about Z-A, honestly not dissimilar to the main series, amounts to "fun core gameplay with a bunch of small flaws that amount to nitpicks". Like, it's fair to have criticism but I feel like people miss the forest for the trees. (Ha.)

And then half the time the second game gets super edgy out of nowhere (Jak and PoP being the standout examples)

Not even being derogatory there, even when it doesn't quite work it's still a surprisingly neat trend to look back on

This feels like someone asking "man, all my food has been so spicy lately, is this hot sauce I've been dumping on everything going to get spicier too?"

Like, maybe it's not going to get spicier on its own, but are you not seeing the cause and effect here?

To be fair, I wouldn't say what I did would be particularly suited to testing for the Deck as a whole (if someone didn't buy the dock for it, it might be tricky), but I really liked the analog stick for the wheel, gave me Wiimote and Nunchuck vibes, which definitely suited this game nicely!

(Also, my control setup was weird - my only computer I could use was a Steam Deck with a dock, and I could have dug out a USB keyboard but couldn't bother, so I used a mouse and the left side of a controller with left trigger bound to Spacebar for the scanner, worked like a charm actually.)
