Srdce is Czech for “heart”. You gotta have heart! Big tennis fan. Watched my first U.S. Open when it was still played on grass. Used to play it, and write about it. Now onto something completely different.
Only 460,000 people in line now to buy tickets to Roland Garros. 🤣. (For the general public, that is.)

So addictive. This episode was really freaky. I just want everything to turn out okay. But apparently there’s a third season coming, and we’re only halfway through the second season.
I planned to stick to tennis but, oh wow, is anybody else addicted to the AppleTV show, “Severance”? Episode 5, season 2 is on in an hour! 😁

Of the 42 Superbowl LIX ads I watched, I still think the ON shoe ad with Roger Federer and Sesame Street’s Elmo is the best. @on_running. The Lays Potato Chip ad was touching. The simpler, the better. However the WeatherTech floormat ad was hilarious, albeit a little over the top.

#PenickovaPower! The American twins, who as Junior Fed Cup standouts two years ago, have won the Australian Open Girls Doubles title! 🇺🇸. Even as 13 year-olds, they beat a U of Miami doubles team in an exhibition in 2023. So, put these girls on your “players to watch” list.

Time for Penickova Power! 🇺🇸 this is going to be a good junior girls doubles match. I think Jones and Klugman are the favorites though. @ausopen.bsky.social

This story Matthew Futterman wrote for The Athletic offers good details on how Coco Gauff, working with coach Matt Daly, fixed her forehand and serve last fall. Very well written.

The world No. 3 had to fix the two most important shots in tennis. This is how she did it

The ITF did the draw for the Davis Cup qualifying in February 2025, and the USA is playing Chinese Taipei, with Taipei choosing their surface and location. Looks like I’ll be watching this round on TV.

I was going to laugh, but I actually do know a friend who would hang one of these on her tree. This showed up on my Instagram feed. Not sure how, since I don’t follow him, but Instagram remembered the photos I took of him back at the French Open.

Here is my reaction to Iga Swiatek’s video on her positive doping test that found a batch of melatonin was contaminated. Now I understand how prevalent contamination is when food and drugs are made. I can imagine how many players were contaminated with something before drug testing ever started.

Happy Thanksgiving to the American players in the ATP Challengers in Mexico, Japan and Chile. And to @jessieaney still in the doubles at the Buenos Aires 125. Hopefully you’ll get to have a few days off at home with your families and friends before the 2025 season starts!

Thinking the USA Davis Cup team would last longer in Malaga, I was prepared to stay until today. So I took the free time and went up to Granada, Spain to see the Alhambra. I was there when I was 10 years old and it left a lasting impression. So I revisited. The place never disappoints.

The pall that was felt earlier today among U.S. visitors, donning stars and stripes and sad faces, was replaced by the orange wigs of Italian fans, horns, drums, carota boys and excitement as Berrettini and Sinner, the surprise doubles team, clinch the victory from Argentina tonight.

Musetti gets a pep talk. The Davis Cup is in the foreground.

Wow, I was all ready to see Ram and Krajicek break the tie at Davis Cup but our doubles team is now Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton! Interesting…

I love this part.

Struff Strutted his stuff for Germany. Tough loss for Canada at the Davis Cup. The BJK cup final is in 5 minutes. Get that crowd in here! Where is everybody? Oh, out in the fan zone chugging beer and celebrating Germany’s win.

Davis Cup is KOOL! 🎾

I’m just fathoming how cool it will be to have Slovakia in the BJK Cup final without top ten players like Hantuchova and Cibulkova were.

Tension inside the arena as Šramkova is neck and neck with Boulter in the third set of the second singles match. Meanwhile botic and Rafa fans are piling in for the 5 pm tie at 5 pm (a half hour from now). Quite a disparity in the vibe…lots of singing and relaxation outside, nailbiting inside.

Very tight even 2 hours later. I’m so impressed with Paolini’s success this year. I watched her walk out the gates of the U.S. Open in 2023, with a dejected demeanor after she crashed out of the first round. Alone with her coach, no fans running up to her. Now she’s a completely different player.
I do believe this Poland & Italy BJK cup tie is going to be tight.
