Southern Region Weekly Drought Update

- Last week, most of the Southern Region felt cooler than normal for this time of year.
- Widespread rainfall occurred across the western margins of the Region.
- Overall coverage of D0-D4 Drought takes up almost 50% of the land area.

July 15th Drought Monitor:

"Abnormally dry conditions were improved over southwest Arkansas while much of central Texas had the drought intensities reduced due to the ongoing rains. Some areas of (South Central) Texas recorded enough rain where a multiple category improvement was made."

The longest record for atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) observations in the world (from Mauna Loa Observatory) found that CO₂ concentrations have already peaked! May's CO2 concentrations are 3.6 ppm higher than last year.

June Drought Outlook from NWS Climate Prediction Center:

Drought is predicted to persist south of the Brazos River in Texas. Fortunately, it is predicted to end near the Oklahoma & Texas panhandles.

Widespread improvements occurred in Texas and the panhandles. Johnson and Carter counties in Tennessee also experienced drought improvements, leaving the state drought-free.

Temperature and Precipitation Outlooks for the next 2 weeks from the Climate Prediction Center:

Temperatures are leaning below normal in Oklahoma and the Panhandles, and leaning above normal in South Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Tennessee.

Precipitation is leaning above normal!

Widespread one-class improvements concentrated in the panhandles and central Texas, as well as no drought degradations in the rest of the Region.

Last week, plentiful rainfall and seasonably cooler temperatures encompassed the Southern Region. Louisiana, Mississippi, and parts of Texas received over 2 times their normal rainfall amounts.

In 2020 my great aunt passed left me her Hi-Fi and record collection. The collection consists of Cajun French music, zydeco, and blues from record labels local to the TX/LA coastal area. I'd love to have the ability to save to digital on some of those!
