I know you said you don't trust the opinions of strangers but it takes a while for mega to get fun. Unless you like having your hand cramp after a 3-4 minute solve. Once you get your solves down to around 2 minutes it gets alright

You don't have to be good to go to a competition. There's a lot of people who aren't even under 1 minute. Just keep learning and you'll get there eventually.

Moyu RS3M Super or Tornado V3 are very good cubes. If your looking for more budget a normal RS3M should work
