Humanist and Dorset denizen. Born back when atmospheric CO2 was at 321 ppm. Computers, archaeology, stargazing, bicycles, environment. (I won't be submitting a scan of my face or my credit card details to KWS, so no DMs I'm afraid.)
Brilliant :-)

A queen Median Wasp I saw in the garden late this afternoon after mistaking her for a European hornet. She was chewing up wood, no doubt for use in nest building. If, like me, you've never heard of a Median Wasp, it's all explained here:

Hmm, my phone camera completely messed up the colour temperature of that shot. It's way too "cold". Here's a warmer, more accurate version of the jpeg.

A sandy slurry oozing from the rapidly crumbling cliffs at Barton-on-Sea, Hampshire (UK). This probably consists mainly of Barton sand mixed with run off or spring water. The blue-tinged clump of sand at the bottom of the shot is likely from the Chama beds in the lower part of the cliff.

Spent a wonderful winter solstice on Down Farm, Cranborne Chase with Martin Green, Mike Tizzard, Kate Earl, Mark Holloway, @melcarrington.bsky.social and other friends. Watched the setting sun while standing within the Dorset Cursus, looking towards the earthworks on Gussage Down. Just magical.

So I realised last night that the main wikimedia photo of the jaw-dropping globular cluster, 47 Tucanae, makes a great Zoom virtual background. Using the browser app in Firefox there was a little "tearing" when I moved around in front of it, but nothing show stopping. #HubbleSpaceTelescope

I've read a lot of essays about Trump recently, but after careful reflection I think Janey Godley really got to the heart of the matter.

The perils of "overinterpretation". This one in comments under a post about the Marlborough Mound in a Facebook history and heritage group I follow. #history #archaeology #Wiltshire

Kris Kristofferson's list of personal achievements is astonishing. The following newspaper snippet lists his accomplishments at 21, before becoming a US army captain, helicopter pilot, actor and globally successful singer/songwriter! The inspiration for the Frasier "Perfect Guy" episode, I wonder?

Had a wonderful star gazing session last night. With decent "seeing" for once I had some excellent views of Saturn at up to 240x mag. Was trying to see M74 from the garden for the first time, but the sky here is too light polluted. Was studying the blue dot of Uranus when it started clouding over.
