I think we watched season 1 then skipped to like season 3 when they did the time leap and made it through maybe one more season. I should have known from the moment the klingon/orcs showed up.

No don't - it's horribly written and acted. It has some passible moments but it's so over the top emotional it feels like you're being beaten over the head with having to care about the characters.
