in my head every “splatlandian youth” default banner player looks like this
October 31, 2025 at 4:33 AM
like i’m sure this game is infinitely more enjoyable playing with friends but i don’t have any friends who play it! i’m just a flingza main alone in the world in a wet cardboard box waiting 10 minutes for ranked series queue and losing from a ko within 60 seconds
October 31, 2025 at 3:50 AM
some sr rotations feel genuinely unplayable in solo queue because a splatling or a charger are too difficult for the avg player to understand. nobody goes after non-boss salmonids. nobody understands roles. they run off on their own, get splatted, cry for help, and now we’re swarmed lol crew wipe

how the fuck am i expected to wait a month for this i cant possibly wait that long i need it i need it i need it

no wonder this series became so popular and influential. the pc-98 titles are so impressive in spite of their limitations. it’s unfathomably gay, so far there’s only been a single man and he’s a turtle grandpa. everyone else is female. reimu wants any woman she can get her hands on. i’m in love

for someone who spends her entire life inside, i’m quite bad at it. i constantly long for more than what my immediate surroundings are able to give me. suburbia is nice to return to, but i want the open road! i want mountaintops! i want the same freedom i felt when i only answered to myself!

aesthetics likely play huge part as well. ori appears to have sold as much as hk. hm. thinking out loud, is all.

i wish more would play super metroid. it’s so easily accessible nowadays, there’s nothing stopping you. i wanna play super metroid again
September 27, 2025 at 7:53 AM
truthfully the more i think about it the more i’m inclined to believe it may be myself and my own expectations that’s the problem. no other metroidvania in recent history has been such a massive success like hollow knight. which may be in part a result of its length. my og 109% file had 60 hours.
September 27, 2025 at 7:53 AM
i replay super metroid all the time and finish it in a few hours for fun. that’s part of the appeal of metroidvanias, at least for me personally. ori doesn’t take any longer than 6-8. yoku’s? 6-8. prime? 6-8. shantae? usually 6-8. every 2d metroid? 6-8.

i’m seeing a pattern
September 27, 2025 at 7:53 AM
a long metroidvania can absolutely be a good thing and act 1 and 2 are proof of it. act 3 doesn’t stumble? it isn’t bad by any means. i still enjoy my time with it. but i’m tired, man. i feel less inclined to replay it someday with how big the time commitment will end up being.
September 27, 2025 at 7:53 AM
i wouldn’t feel so “ehhhhhh,,,” about silksong towards the end of my first playthrough if it ended around the 30 hour mark for the average playthrough. but instead there’s an extra 15 hours that don’t necessarily feel completely worth the time invested. and 30 is already very long for the genre!
September 27, 2025 at 7:53 AM
most metroidvanias are relatively short in comparison to other genres, and that’s to their benefit. it makes them inherently more replayable than your average annual november release of a major franchise. they’re inspired primarily by classic adventure games and narratives.

i think i just don’t really enjoy modern triple-a game design and its focus on padding game length through the sheer amount of content rather than designing a game with proper pacing that follows its narrative without significant supplementary diversions. so i don’t want that in my indie games.
September 27, 2025 at 7:53 AM
i have so many thoughts about this game and how mind blowing it is but you can really tell they just kept adding things because at a certain point the magic has kind of run its course and you’re just begging for something more than a few extra rooms in previously explored areas. like please
September 27, 2025 at 7:33 AM
if this concept was explored previously through silk, like if there was a variant for enemies who were bound with more silk than others and became abominations (see: whiteward) with similar aspects to those seen in act 3, i would have been more fond of the act 3 variants! instead they’re just. there
September 27, 2025 at 7:33 AM
like wow cool most of the enemies i’ve learned the attack patterns of that i could fight in my sleep now have the same 2-3 new attacks that all deal the same amount of damage and all have the same telegraphing. and slightly more health. and some silk drain upon hit.
September 27, 2025 at 7:33 AM
there are like, a few more rooms in previously explored areas and an admittedly large chunk of new bosses. those bosses are the highlights, of course, much like the previous acts, but outside of the lore implications of the changes made to pharloom? i wasn’t really impressed. at first, sure. but. eh
September 27, 2025 at 7:33 AM
it’s weird feeling like if the game concluded after act 2, perhaps with act 3 as a 1-2 hour long epilogue, i would have come away from the game feeling like it was perfect beyond many of the previous best in the genre. instead the game i’ve already more or less finished is slightly bigger
September 27, 2025 at 7:33 AM
with how the initial driving force is the mystery of the citadel and then the subsequent exploration of it, seeing how little such an important location has changed following the end of act 2 is a bit of a bummer. some enemies are mildly harder and the minor aesthetic changes match everywhere else
