Yes. I am willing to accept this show as escapism. For me, I like to escape, but I also like to ask, “who gets to be a fantasy?” queer folk shouldn’t look to these types of shows for representation imo, but like it does open a conversation about who gets to be seen sexually in popular queer media.

Hockey players are notoriously hairy….. and no one has ass hair….. Im not against seeing fit people have sex, but like some poor editor had to CGI out ass hair or the actors had to shave or something

I also want to emphasize that i like the show and its like still a really amazing show, but i think Jordan firstmans criticism is fair and we should be pushing for a variety of gay experience in our media. Especially with different body types. This media exists, its just not mainstream

My issue isn’t "showing the lube." It's that the show's approach to gay sex in the first two episodes feels sanitized for mass appeal. The filming and scripting of penetrative scenes rarely acknowledge the specific physicality of gay sex, treating it instead like the more familiar p in v dynamic.

Im honestly really sad about it because like Jordan is shooting sex scenes that are more based in reality of gay male sex, and as a community we deserve more accurate and realistic experiences in our media. It’s out there!! Just not featured on HBO Max

That’s to say episode 4 had them frotting which is very gay, and I do think plays a really important part in the story, where frotting is incredibly unique to gay sex and then that’s the thing that reminds Shane “I can’t do this” that’s my take
