Tram ape from Helsinki. Socialism with hominid characteristics.
Elite's humiliation rituals have a long history. They are meant to create loyalty through blackmail and shame. Like gang initiation for the rich and powerful.

I think Nixon and his grumbling about Bohemian Grove in the tapes are the most famous example in popular memory.

Biscuit has had the same meaning in several languages, possibly for a thousand years. I think the US version might have some trouble replacing it.

Scones and your savory scones you call biscuits are a thing you and brits need to sort out. Baked good are serious business and battle lines are drawn.

Yeah. It is also true that many so called charities are just scams. I have literally fundraised for a "charity" in Finland myself. Under 10% went to the cause. Paid OK though.

Mashed potatoes are very common, just not in fast food places. Maybe it's because I associate fast food as finger food, but mashed potatoes just feels insanely wrong.

Also it seems that Americans have been too long alone in their continent that they have forgotten what biscuit actually means.

It used to be much worse. Selling beer in kiosks(which had much better opening hours) just became legal in -94. Selling illegal(as in breaking the monopoly of alko) alcohol was also very widespread. My own grandfather made good money from it.

Most Finns know how to speak English but their fluency varies wildly. It is also true that there are hundreds of thousands of people in Finland who only speak Finnish, mostly older, poorer and more rural people. Outside of the capital region not being able to speak Finnish can become a problem.

Fortunate, alongside happy, might be the best translation for onnellinen.
August 2, 2025 at 7:22 PM
I think it because happiness and being "lucky" is the same word in Finnish. People are like "i'm in a good spot but i'm not emotionally happy."

In Finland that is.

I think the biggest almost equivalent is keskiaikafestivaali.fi/en/ in Hämeenlinna.

On no, Finland has kissel too. Fruit soup is a little more runny.

I think this might make some Italians as irrationally angry as I am on your tastes on pickles.
May 24, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Interesting. Maybe the vinegar is too different in European pickles. Out of American brands I have only tried the Van Holten's weird sack pickle and it didn't seem that different.

Sauvon Suolakurkkua seems closest to your specifications? Just a nice little 2,9 or 1,6 kg container to try with.

Prisma or Citymarket have the best range in products. K‑Citymarket Ruoholahti and Prisma Itäkeskus are by the metro line.

Prisma has an online store too. "Suolakurkku" are the ones without sugar, either with vinegar or fermented. Most have dill and garlic added. www.s-kaupat.fi/tuotteet/hil...

I'm 100% sure you would find what you are looking for from a well stocked supermarket. There are dozens of different variations on sweetness, saltiness, spiciness, vinegariness and fermentation from several different countries. Fermented pickles are low on vinegar and sugar. Maybe those?

Feel empathy for yourself. You must certainly love people around you, being merciful to yourself helps them too. Judging your own persona harshly also discredits their positive feelings about you. I seriously doubt that an autistic person can fool people into liking themselves.

Just wait when you get to taste cloudberries. Very expensive but also very worth it. Literal swamp-berry destroying every other berry is amazing underdog story too.

Finns are notoriously shy, but you might get us to talk in bar setting fine. As a former prolific bar hopper I think Kallio district has the best ones.

Getting sick is a common thing when moving countries. Bacteria biome is massively different here than in US and it extends to foodstuff too. As for solution for it, I would recommend lactic acid bacteria products. Look for "Maitohappobakteeri" at your local store or pharmacy.

There is a nice Kauppahalli(market hall) in Hakaniemi near that statue. There is also the Juttutupa restaurant, old worker's house with "revolution table" in which Lenin used to sit. It is the place where Finnish civil war started when a red lantern was hung in the belfry to signal the revolution.
