"When a man lets things go so far that he is more than half a bicycle, you will not see him so much because he spends a lot of his time leaning with one elbow on walls or standing propped by one foot at kerbstones.”
Flann O'Brien The Third Policeman
Cela ferait une superbe couverture pour le roman "La Chatte" de Collette.

Condor Acciaio
Condor Potenza single speed
Méral 1979 road bike

An Indian/Spanish friend recalls his mum insisting on returning to Franco's Spain, after a few years in Leytonstone, because East London was just too racist for the kids to suffer frequent attacks.

In Swinton, England, 1964, me and sister used to walk to the local library on Saturday. We would each take out four of the Oz books and devour them on the library stairs, so we could return and take out four more on the same day. I recall the sweep of the stairs and the lovely smell of those books.

Excellent and so fantastic. I would love to hear your stories. Please write a little something about your times there xxx

Come back to us once you have done your Google research. It should take about five minutes max.

This is from 2024 alone. www.declassifieduk.org/labour-mps-h...
Labour MPs have accepted over £280,000 from Israel lobby
Twenty percent of Labour’s sitting MPs have been funded by pro-Israel groups or individuals – including 15 who have been directly funded by the Israeli state.

So true. Ed Miliband's parents being a case in point, as his dad fled to England as a refugee from the nazis. Does Ed feel a tremor of conscience?
November 18, 2025 at 6:56 PM
I wonder how Ed Miliband is faring with his conscience. His dad and granddad fled nazi Germany as refugees. His granny and aunty were hidden by a French family to avoid being killed by the nazis.

I agree 100% - I am working my way through this series at the moment. I love the depth of knowledge of William and Anita and their brilliant guests. I am now on episode 200 and will have to re-visit every episode.

Billy Pilgrim, in Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse Five, finds two lumps in the frozen and raggedy fur coat he is given as a prisoner of war in Dresden. A partial denture and a 2 carat diamond, concealed long before by a desperate prisoner on her way to death in a concentration camp.

I remember seeing by chance the Elephant Polo competition in Corbett Lodge, in Nepal 1997. I was cycling past and nearly got trampled by one elephant. One of my favourite "near misses". I have no idea what the rules were.

So sorry Ed. It is a horrible thing to have hanging over you. Solidarity to you and the other NHS workers and f@&€ Streeting!

So true. The first bike I bought on the scheme was a Condor Acciaio in 2007, which I rode to work every day and is still going strong. I would have been put off riding a cheaper, less reliable bike.

Your poetry is bursting up among these cracks in very dry Perpignan in France. Plants are such thirsty little survivors.

I lost all my smell and taste in 1984/5 when I was knocked off my pushbike and got concussion. Sometimes I can get a tiny momentary whiff of e.g. coriander or basil...and very little else. I am still grateful for my lingering memory of all the smells and tastes I knew before this loss.
