22. Mickey 17

Of Bong Joon Ho’s films (at least, the ones I’ve seen), this is probably the most “watchable” one. What some may find it lacking in drama and gravitas, it more than makes up for in humor and heart. It’s juggling a lot of plates, but it does a good job of keeping them in the air.

21. Demon City (2025)

Hype moments and aura compilation ass film. No real substance, only enjoyment to be gained is from the action sequences and a legitimately very good score by composer Tomoyasu Hotei.

20. Crayon Shin-chan: The Tornado Legend of Ninja Mononoke

I only really was aware of this movie’s existence because of the song that plays during the end credits, but I’m glad I watched it. It was cute, with surprisingly well-animated action sequences.

19. SNL 50

Good stuff, solid bits, musical performances that I actually felt like watching. They definitely can choose to be on their A-game when it counts.

18. The Monkey (2025 film)

Enjoyed this much, much more than Oz Perkins’ last film. A ton of fun from start to finish, with some absolutely wacky kills and a plot that didn’t go quite how I’d expect. I kind of wish it was longer and had more time to build on itself, though.

17. The Substance

I’d been wanting to watch this for a while, and finally got the chance tonight. I liked it quite a bit, and I weirdly enjoyed how squirmy and uncomfortable it made me (and my roommate that I also subjected to it). Don’t know if it’s Best Picture worthy, but certainly great.

16. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

Lots of good physical comedy in this. The chase scene near the end of Mr. Toad’s section is absolute kino. The Sleepy Hollow section, though, left a little something to be desired.

15. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah

Very silly, especially compared to its predecessor (Biollante). Not quite as bold or as daring as other films in the Heisei era, and it has kind of a weird pro-Japanese Imperialism message, but it’s good campy sci-fi kaiju fun.

14. Captain America: Brave New World

I didn’t hate this. There were times where it felt like they were using this to tie up a bunch of loose ends, and it was definitely more of a Hulk sequel than a Sam Wilson Cap vehicle, but the action sequences were top notch. A 3/5, though I’m being generous.

13. The Only Good Indians, by Stephen Graham Jones

This was decent, but not exactly what I would call great. I liked the use of second person perspective in certain scenes, as well as how certain characters’ POVs shaped the motifs of the writing, but I was ultimately left wanting more.

12. The Three Caballeros (1944 film)

I’m sorry Disney, but these animated musical anthology propaganda films just are not hitting.

11. Squid Game (Season 2)

Finished this a couple days ago but was so busy with MAGfest I forgot to log it.

I enjoyed this; it doesn’t hit any of the crazy highs of S1, but the new characters are great and compelling, and the twists and turns kept me guessing. I hope S3 can finish out strong.

10. Monster (2023 Japanese film)

This really kept me guessing throughout the beginning portions as I tried to piece together what was going on, but when the realization hit it was like a freight train. A beautiful, and at times heartbreaking, movie.

9. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

It was decent, pretty fun with some good gags. Reminded me of The Fall Guy in a lot of ways. Didn’t much care for some aspects, though, like the “Nicky” character. Probably like a 6/10.

8. Fate/Grand Order -Cosmos in the Lostbelt- 7: Golden Sea of Trees, Nahui Mictlan - Those Who Rule the Planet

A great story from start to finish, one of my favorite chapters in the game.

Thank you for being my friend, Tepeu. I wish I could’ve shown you the stars you were always gazing toward.

It’s peak. Unmatched cinema. Zenith fiction.

6. Creature Commandos (TV Series)

This is a solid proper start to James Gunn’s version of the DCU. I loved everything with Doctor Phosphorous and G.I. Robot, but I felt like the rest of the cast could’ve used more time in the spotlight than a single episode each. Interested in a second season.

5. The Brutalist

A movie that is hard to look at and even harder to love, but in my opinion a striking and unflinchingly beautiful one. It can be difficult to parse its thesis at times, but I believe it to be a staunchly anti-Zionist work, and perhaps one of my favorite films of all time.

4. The Amityville Horror (1979)

This hasn’t aged well from a filmmaking standpoint, IMO; some of the editing is wack, and the pacing is all over the place. But god am I a sucker for Margot Kidder…

3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles

Story mode was alright. CC2 nails the visuals every single time, but the amount of cutscenes got annoying, and retrying fights to try for S ranks is tedious. Still, probably the best actual fighting game in CC2’s lineup.
