Jayce flinches at his gaze and glances away, listening to his own ragged breath as he tries to calm his racing heart. He can hear footsteps, then sees a pair of shoes. His other self crouches down. “...Jayce?” he asks, voice softening, and Jayce flinches again, squeezing his eyes shut. When his other self tries to touch him again, Jayce snarls, unable to help it, trapped in a corner with a bigger, heavier body crowding him in, but when he lashes out with a wordless noise of pain, Jayce—Talis, he thinks for his own fraying mind’s sake—wrestles him easily to the ground, so much stronger than Jayce in this reduced, starved form. He struggles wordlessly for a moment, trying to buck him off, but Talis pins his arms down and he can’t make out the words but he can hear him speaking to him, low and soothing. His warmth bleeds through Jayce’s ragged clothes while he trembles and pants under him, until his body goes still. Jayce stares blankly up at the lab ceiling for a long moment; then, embarrassingly, he bursts into tears. jaycest fic snippet: It’s been so long since he’s been touched. Even longer since the touch hasn’t come with threat of harm. Talis’s body is heavy and so, so warm, and he feels that big, broad hand touch his cheek, wipe at his tears, so gentle it makes Jayce cry even harder, snot and phlegm threatening to cut off his airflow. He tries to breath, choking, and he scrabbles weakly at Talis’s back, black spots dancing in front of his eyes. “—yce. Jayce.” Jayce finally meets his eyes and Talis is staring back, eyebrows creased in concern. “Breathe with me, okay?” He waits for Jayce to nod and then takes a deep breath, ribs expanding, a visceral movement as his weight continues to press Jayce down. Jayce tries to match it, feeling when their chests compress together, in and out, and the dizziness fades from his mind, the tightness in his chest easing. His hands relax on Talis’s back, uncurling from the claw they’d been in, Talis’s bare skin almost feverishly hot against his palms. He’s foregone his jacket, clad only in a soft undershirt, but he doesn’t yet have the wound that bisects his spine. “You’re back with me?” Talis asks and Jayce finally looks at him properly, ignoring the faint pulse of pain behind his eyes as he does so. Talis looks even more exhausted up close, circles under his eyes like bruises, his hair in the kind of fluffy disarray he never used to allow, before the bombing.
