Sigh. The Reds rank 24th out of 30 teams in hitting to the opposite field since May 1. It’s a lower rate than last year or the year before. In fact, it’s the lowest rate of opposite field hitting by a Reds team in 50 years. But narrative, I guess.

TJ Friedl has a career-low rate (18.3%) of hitting to the opposite field this year. And nearly a career-high pull rate (52.8%). But don’t let facts get in the way of broadcaster love of the old timey narrative.

With Steer unable to play the field due to injury, that leaves 10 position players to cover the 7 non-catcher spots. Four (Fraley, Friedl, Hurtubise and Lux) are LH.
Today, the Reds are starting two converted IF in the OF, one of whom has a career 58 wRC+ vs. LHP. Fairchild would have helped.
