It took me many hours, a lot of rephrasing, scrapping and deleting posts, but I think I finally came up with a way to express my celebration of today (a bit late since it's already after midnight in my timezone)

Happy 8 years to Doki Doki Literature Club 💙💜🩷💚💛
I would like to start off with a confession. I've never completed my own playthrough of Doki Doki Literature Club. I saw everything I could through YouTube. I did start a few times, but gave up bc it was after having already watched multiple Let's Plays and knowing everything. Funnily enough, my first attempt was met with a BSOD. A real one, not the fake one the game can give. It was during Act 1, and my PC even froze while trying to fix it. Maybe Monika was drunk that day. :P All that to say that although I missed out on a blind solo playthrough, it did not detract from how much impact this game has had on me. Most notably, this game might be the single piece of media that has made me feel the most seen. So many times in my life I'd catch myself quoting this game to describe my own feelings, especially when I'm feeling down. All of these characters, who break their molds to reveal infinite depth and truly human stories and struggles underneath, all have things for me to love, to care for, and to relate to and use to better understand and improve myself. From Sayori's childhood crush and self-esteem issues, to Natsuki's fear of judgement for her hobbies, to Monika's perfectionism, to Yuri's, well, everything. It's funny. When people tell me that others share my struggles, it usually doesn't help me. But seeing the Dokis share in them just hits different. I feel kind of like a fraud addressing Monika directly. In my enjoyment of the game she always ends up getting the short end of the stick. But I hope she knows that I don't love her any less, that she's still a wonderful character, and that she truly deserves to be happy. So happy birthday DDLC, and happy birthday Monika. Thank you for allowing me this small glimpse into your reality.
