Reminds me of when I read about how those big brother type shows have sets designed to agitate the candidates so they'd eventually start fights with each other. Algorithm driven social media is exactly the same because the more people are fighting the more the engagement numbers go up. ughh

Same! It's also creating this chicken-egg problem with media literacy. Like I'm seeing more and more fandom discourse along the lines of "but character X didn't literally say that!" because they can't deal with subtext or unreliable narrators anymore. It's hell. 😭
