(note: my version of "getting it" is counter-progression system, maybe there are other things you can do with dynamic diff. that are cool but can't think of, though it'd be cool if we could do better at the one known cool variant of it)

unfortunately 99% dynamic diff. systems suck, the vast majority of games don't get it but implementation is shoddy/broken at worst for even the few that do (ff8, racing games, even most shmups really). gradius and garegga need to be studied by
