this is the dumbest expression I've ever heard as the effects fiction has on reality have been documented for years now. the ideals and beliefs presented in the media consumed by the general public do make an impact, and in a time when most are lacking the skills to critically pick media apart, this statement is horrid. Valentino isn't real, yes of course. but the actions he has done are. rape is, abuse is. pimping is. you can enjoy a character no doubt but when the line has become so blurred as what's happened with hazbin the watering down and desensitization to real crimes that affect millions of people daily is not something to be praised. need i mention the mugs, the music video, the merchandise, the shipping of abuser and the victim? while all deemed to be an escapist fiction, these ideas being so prevalent isn't a good thing. fiction is indeed an escape, but fiction does affect reality in many documented ways. Most famously; cats drinking milk, rabbits having a staple diet of carrots, and though less fiction and more media in general, the idea that you have to wait 24 hours to file a missing persons report. that idea has killed people. the sentiment of the two needing to be seperated here and in general is what makes this not only a pathetically tone deaf and dangerous sentiment but proves that you, vivinne, do not understand what it takes to create or engage with media. in a time when the literacy rates are dropping and young adults are lacking the process of critical consumption, the determination to create a complete severance IS dangerous. for a creator who claims to create content for adults, both you and your fanbase are sorely lacking in the ability to both create and consume media that is truly mature. this doesn't mean characters who deal with serious topics shouldn't exist, and their fans shouldn't either. but in places where they do respect is owed and frankly required. a "don't like don't watch" mentality will only go so far when the ideas seep into other places.
