It’s been happening near me too, just a short drive away in Massachusetts.

Luckily, Boston’s been out in FORCE against this bullshit 🤍

Her ending felt a little more forced toward the “I can’t let go of Verso” angle than I’d like (since I didn’t choose it for those reasons), but it’s still the ending I prefer.

And ultimately, if the reason the painting needs to be destroyed is because Aline can’t help herself, that’s her issue.

At times I saw resentment. Other times, dismissal. Even pity and distrust.

Her family treats her like shit. And she probably already wishes she we were dead for what happened combined with her physical afflictions.

I don’t blame her for wanting a life in the painting. I’d want it too.

Not only did she lose her ability to speak, an entire eye, and go through full facial disfiguration, but SHE also lost a brother and went through a traumatic event. Not just her family.

And she’s blamed on top of that. It was clear as day to be how much her family looked down on her for that.

Seeing Lune’s facial expression as she fades away in Verso’s ending is exactly how I felt. I will always stand by Maelle’s ending for the ones who live inside the painting alone.

However, there’s also Maelle’s life. It’s unclear how the fire was her fault, but she lost everything because of it

Keeping Verso’s painting alive goes further than just keeping the fake Verso alive.

All the lives that were created inside that painting are just as valuable to me, they have emotions, live, die, love, all of the above. To sacrifice that and the world itself feels cruel and selfish

I picked Maelle’s ending, and then watched Verso’s after. They both suck for different reasons. They’re probably meant to, reality is harsh.

But I hate seeing Maelle’s choice simplified down to “not moving forward and living in grief” because there’s so much more to it than that

Everyone knows that the story talks about the topic of grief heavily, and the two endings most often end up being boiled down to “moving on” or “living in your grief”

Which is somewhat true, but it’s also more nuanced than that…
