PVC pipe and two T-joints make a pretty good niddy noddy. Bonus, you can make different center pieces to make different skein sizes.

I use a telescoping broom/painting handle as a distaff. I hadn't thought of tying it to a chair though!

Beautiful whole on that spindle! My suggestion would be some form of notch at the top to hold the half hitch for a drop spindle, or a sharper tip for a supported spindle.

Isn't that where quilts came from in the first place? I've got several quilts from my great grandma that used leftovers and the best part of worn out clothes. My mom could identify some of the pieces from dresses she had growing up.
