You could always bridge Matrix and Discord to accommodate both types of people.

I prefer Discord, some complain about searchability but I don't agree that this is a major concern. Zulip and Matrix would be fine too, but that's another thing to self-host, and Matrix has always been really rough, with homeservers getting deleted, problems with account recovery, broken clients.
