"authoritarian" and "totalitarian" are two similarly meaningless words. any time anyone ever says either to you, you can interpret them to mean generically Bad from the perspective of the speaker. it means nothing other than the relative opinion of the speaker.

even aside from the "what is short circuiting in your head if you're equating cops and 'tankies' in any concept" thing, the word is meaningless. it's either used as a vague slur against anyone on the left or it's used as a stand in for a racial slur. meaningless. deeply unserious behavior.
