indeed - if only because of the remarkable green/renewables surge, which my colleagues have done a great job covering.

still, to suggest Europe (as a pillar of rich world) is somehow a laggard, doesn't quite fit the long-term narrative.

the trend of rapid decline in some countries and continued increases in others doesn't change if you look at per capita (given broadly stable populations).

everyone accepts rich world needs to do a lot -- the point is, they are doing it!

Just a reminder that Europe, a country that got rich over 250 years thanks to oil, gas and coal, has signed up to "net zero" within a generation. Yes, you can focus on some fudging of interim targets on the way to zero, but I really think that's missing the era-defining change that is under way.

France hasn't had a female president, which for this comparison I think is the relevant one (ie the politician that heads to EU summits etc). But yes they are outliers now, especially as Japan has just left the all-male club.
