this whole train of thought is possibly only interesting to me, idk. all I know is that for me, the way that Pokemon sit at the intersection of biology and literal magic is one of my favorite things about them and I end up going down mental rabbit holes like this about it often

what makes a Banette? is a Banette a descendant of the original Banette, thus making our theoretical alternate Banette convergent non-Banette? or is a Banette the product (direct or otherwise) of this particular supernatural phenomenon, thus making our alt Banette regional variants?

now imagine, if you will, if this phenomenon occured multiple times with different designs of plush dolls as the "originators". these could work as either convergent Pokemon or regional variants, imo. after all, how do you apply irl evolutionary concepts to a species that came to be supernaturally?
