The carrot and stick method I use on my dog is that I give him a carrot so he doesn’t eat all the sticks in the backyard

If I throw it too far he gives up looking for it

I actually managed to get a cup win with item lock tyranitar! Whiffed top 4 cut the first attempt to retreat lock, lost in top 4 to bolt on the second, made some changes to feel better about bolt, and I paid off on the third try! (Also a TON of luck lol)
