He could see how it fit, straps above and below the ears, pulled taut with buckles at the back of the head. How many had worn, wished and wept with it clutching them so tightly. How the slip of leather over the mouth opened, revealed a leather-bound metal ring. Clenched between teeth, it held one open for having. Or: Cole learns of a new way to help the people of Skyhold.

A snippet of a jayvik work in progress fic: Viktor stood up. He placed his staff against Jayce’s hammer. Then, leveraging his shoulder once more, he sat next to him. It had embarrassed him the first time he had done this: leaned against what was left of Jayce, his cheek nuzzled in the grassy growths of his upper arm. Jayce was hard and brittle beneath, vaguely moist with rot and verdure. The alkaline scent of the arcane nested within the gentle, cloying sweetness of yellow blooms. Viktor was past embarrassment, now, like he was beyond most things. He breathed in and pretended he could still smell the sharp musk of burned fuel and aftershave. The smell of the smithy and of carefully manicured appearances. The scent of Jayce Talis.

Snippet of a work in progress jayvik fic: The thing in front of him wasn’t Viktor. It didn’t look like him, didn’t move like him. Even the voice that resonated from its metal shell was only a pantomime of Viktor’s soft, accented timbre. Jayce had to believe it wasn’t him. Just like he had to believe killing Viktor had been the right choice. The only choice. That Viktor had wanted him to do it, that he had smiled when Jayce took aim and let the cannon blast hit him dead on—right in the heart. But now this construct, this thing, with all the hallmarks of their research, the Hexcore’s delicate plated metal and whirling patterns of white and gold, the bifurcated flashes of rot and un-life that was to be their future in this dead, doomed world—approached. Jayce couldn’t respond in time. His hammer had never felt heavier. That thing flipped over him, wrapped around him, unyielding like steel, but only just tight enough to keep him still, not to hurt. A cold hand over his heart, another grasping his chin. A thin, smooth plate of metal like a kiss beneath his lip.
