Ahhh, that makes enough sense to me. When I was starting with 3D to 2D, I noticed that they roughly lined up in style everywhere but the face and hair. I guess if they used the 3D models instead of 2D model sheets as their model refs, it would explain some of the model inconsistency between scenes.

I don’t know much about the internal working of it all, but I think it’s super interesting. It’s cool to know that the waves are mimicking the tides, and crazy to think that if I hadn’t been actively looking at the date UI across a sample, I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

And a final unrelated note, while pulling references I noticed that the water animation on the Day/Time UI changes height with the moon phases. I don’t know what to do with this information, but I just thought it was neat.

And the other thing I worked on was a really questionable layout I made from a screenshot of the actual scene to learn the general feel for it. I haven’t done layouts in forever, so I re-learned a lot with this practice one.

I would still like to make a femc version someday, but in hindsight, it was very ambitious of me to have my heart set on animating something I didn’t even have the audio editing skill OR any actual audio for 😅

Anyway, I might end up using the movie’s model sheets and the actual model as references for Orpheus, Thanatos and the Magician.

I wish they had included anim pre prod sheets in the Reload artbook like they did in the p3 one….

I’ve gotta give it to them on this, P3R’s character and field models are organized somewhat decently. I think the biggest hurdle to navigating models is not knowing the internal codes they use to categorize, but even those aren’t too bad to figure out.
It does suck though.
