Are you all right?

Unfortunately, I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing the opera on stage. So for now, I will have to content myself with the 1970 Czechoslovakian Supraphon recording: Prague National Theatre Chorus and Orchestra conducted by Bohumil Gregor.

I can understand very well that you want to own certain books in printed form. I am a bit of a bibliophile myself. I only linked to the text because I didn't know if it was urgent.
As for Janáček's operas, I only have "The Cunning Little Vixen" on vinyl.

I hope that these suggestions will be useful for your project. For more specific questions, you will probably need to consult someone who has dealt with the topic more intensively than I have.

Best regards!

It consists of "travel notes" written after Chekhov's trip to the island of Sakhalin in summer and autumn of 1890. The book is based on the writer's personal travel experience, as well as on extensive statistical data collected by him.

Finally, another book should be mentioned that, alongside Dostoevsky's "The House of the Dead", can be considered a classic on this subject: "Sakhalin Island" by Anton Chekhov.

Another book that may be of interest is "Siberia and The Exile System" by George Kennan. However, as it was published in 1891 and written from a contemporary perspective, the descriptions should be treated with caution.

Alas, I was unable to look inside the book, so I cannot comment on its structure or how detailed the text is.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find an English translation, but it might be worth translating individual passages with the help of web applications.

I also came across a book by British historian Daniel Beer entitled "The House of the Dead: Siberian Exile Under the Tsars" published in 2016.

Translated, the title reads "In the world of the katorga: forced labour for political offenders in the late Tsarist Empire (Eastern Siberia and Sakhalin)".

A compact but profound treatise on the penal system in Tsarist Russia – the katorga – is provided by the essay "In der Welt der Katorga die Zwangsarbeitsstrafe für politische Delinquenten im ausgehenden Zarenreich (Ostsibirien und Sachalin)" by Markus Ackeret from 2007.

I would be glad to help as much as possible. I have a master's degree in Eastern European history, but Russia is not my main focus. Furthermore, most of the sources I have access to are in German.
