“The market” is businesses- who are inherently motivated by profit. As such, they are never going to be an appropriate provider of services that need to eschew profit in favour of other values. (Eg healthcare / water as other examples.)

We do need age verification, but it needs to be anonymous and provided by trusted providers who explicit don’t track use after token exchange and creating don’t use for their purposes or sell data.

As this has been instigated by governments, they should be obligated to provide a viable solution.
