If I’m not into it after <5 pages, maybe it’s me, if the book is well-recommended, and I’ll stick with it, but if I’m still not feeling it after 20-30%, I feel like I gave it a decent look. Better things await. I’m no longer interested in proving to myself or anyone else I can get through Moby Dick.

I read this as a new father and could barely discuss it without becoming emotional. Even 14 years later, I’m not sure I could handle a graphic novel of it!

Verse 48 there is the one that messed with my head for a long time. I finally understood when I read it in Spanish that the meaning of “perfect” here is “complete,” in other words, love ALL of humanity, not just your own people.
