This design woke me up in the dead of night, and while I lay in bed I quickly counted how many letters were in the word “freedom”. When I realized it matched the same number of letters as there are days in a week, I jumped out of bed and got to work designing.

Craftivism really helps when coping with distressing current events. It gives the “fight” response (of fight or flight) somewhere to go. If you have something to say through your craft, say it. Stitch it. Sew it. Share it.

They don’t tend to reach “new” people, and I also can’t post anything longer than a minute and a half. It’s also just a different vibe. But I plan to try with them more!

I know that there are other avenues to build community and build an audience. But there was something so unique about TikTok and its ability to reach POTENTIAL needlepointers as well as long term needlepointers.

The question I keep asking myself, over and over, is “how do we reach new stitchers now?” “How do we find the people who might be interested and just don’t know about it yet”

Creators like myself were sharing tutorials, finishes, projects we were working on, and resources for beginners. People were jumping into the craft who might have not learned about it otherwise.

Two, a loss of opportunities to expand the craft of needlepoint. One of the reasons the industry swelled so much in 2024 is because of the attention TikTok brought to the art form.

One, a loss of income due to a loss of attention and interest and interaction from people who enjoy needlepoint and who might not otherwise see my designs.
