Geologist at Uni. Silesia in Katowice (Poland) focus on active tectonics, mountains geomorphology, speleology
Last week, I had the pleasure of organizing in the #Tatra Mts. 59 Polish speleological symposium. Inspiring invited lectures, great talks, and most importantly, discussions in the field where we shared the last decade of our research😁I am happy we could award 4 #ECR grants

Not only do speleothems make caves enjoyable! Textbook hypogene morphology in Brzozowa #cave in the Polish Jura upland: cupolas, feeders, ghostrock.

Oh, btw, the new #cave passages are on the N-S #fault which I described here: doi.org/10.2113/2024...

Visiting Cork County 🇮🇪☘️ was a real structural #geology feast🤩
I’ll start with #boudinage, the extensional structure of a rigid layer is stretched and deformed between less competent surroundings.

We are heading even further east to look for more of those that have not been studied, and of course look for some deformation in caves

84 caves in 6 weeks from easy walking through vertical squeezes to crawling in bugs. All between teaching, supervising graduates, admin, and PI duties. Quite a logistics🥵 Today I finished #fieldwork for #antropopression on #cave in #Nature2000 areas of the Polish Jura. I’m tired

On today's #FridayFault I found beautiful slickensides in the Między Sosnami Cave, Polish Jura. The #cave has a #gravitational origin, despite being in limestone. Few generations of broken flowstone imply its repeated reactivation. With <50km from LGM my first guess is forebulge

fruitful week in the #caves of the Drama Basin, Greece. We found some bedrock deformations, broken speleothems, and massive collapses. Now it's time to deal with the samples. 24 samples from 5 caves, sounds like a promising start to Bahadir's PhD project

Finally, after a 6-month visa battle, we started collecting data for Bahadir's PhD, part of the Sonata BIS @NCN_PL project. In Peristerionas #cave, 500m from the Drama Basin #fault🇬🇷, we measured and sampled bunch of open #fractures and destroyed (sheared and compressed) speleothems

We tried yesterday, with my new PhD student Bahadir, our new fancy equipment: a lidar scanner for cavers built in the Polish Academy of Science github.com/JanuszBedkowsk…
IT IS BRILLIANT INVENTION!
