This was the same year that Lan WangJi’s world started to crumble, at a café, small little place owned by a kind man named James and his girlfriend, Lucy. Even now, this is a conversation that Lan Wangji cries when he remembers: “So, Lan Zhan” he paused after saying the name to think of how to articulate the words. “Wei Ying?” How naive Lan WangJi was. Not anymore. His face souring as he remembers what he said. It is not that he regrets knowing before it was too late, but he certainly wishes that he had taken more care, especially since Wei Ying had mentioned it was important. “A-Zhan..” The boy paused once more before finally deciding to come out and just say it. “Recently, Auntie Yu took me to the hospital. I passed out— and after running some tests they told me I have pancreatic cancer, but that it is much too late to do anything about it. Really, I could die at any time, but thus far, my condition is not too deteriorated that I cannot function. It likely will not be for another few months at least, but they can never be too sure.”
