People are not getting bikes capable of bringing multiple children for the purposes of low-frequency recreational travel. They're replacing their cars for (relatively) short distance commutting - school runs, jobs, etc. A big, heavy bike is less pleasant for recreational cycling.

I think the surprising thing is these lies are peddled by the same people who do continue to valourise WW2. How often have we seen WW2 used to justify this, even? "We didn't fight WW2 to let europe invade us now" was a common refrain in the Brexit debate, fight them on the beaches for refugees, etc

interest should very much be in their wheelhouse and they ought to be equipped to dig into them and assess if anyone is giving them a story with a particular angle on it, which they also seem unwilling to do these days - Deer did, later, live up to the promise of journalism and investigate properly.

He courted press because he had undeclared financial interests in the MMR vaccine's potential replacement, and he was essentially using the scientific forum to form a political lobbying group. I don't think this undermines your broader point about the complicity of media, though. Conflicts of 2/

Hi Simon - long time fan, totally un-economic in background, find you very digestible and clear. I do want to criticise a point I think possibly wasn't intended but seems to come off. The article seems to imply Wakefield was legitimately, but mistakenly, criticising a dominant position. He wasn't.
