Thank you for the word...here's what I did while you were finding it for us!

I made a new friend out in the September sunshine. Gopher snake living a great life!

Because many things are very stupid...here's a stream orchid, epipactis gigantea, from high in the Trinity Mountains, growing snuggled up to a tiny fen full of cobra lilies, darlingtonia californica. There's magic if you look (sometimes for weeks on weeks of adventuring!).

Aaaarghhhhhh...it's my nemesis! I KNOW they live here and have stood and knelt near these lovelies and given myself new wrinkles trying to spot the elusive nonexistent sundew for several hours this year alone! Thank you for inspiring hope again.

Just summer stuff: trying out fish and chips in little towns!

I have a theory about eastward moving monster storm cells...strike map from kid who drives out to check them all for his employer

🌿🌱 My roses planted by my MIL, some 50+ years ago, survived me learning....but nearby wild hyacinths, (Dichlostemma) sneaking (back) into a yard stripped, colonized and overplanted with imports is real news! OLD Joseph's Coat might be the oldest rose, but the Blue Dicks want their land back💚💜) #9b

Finished off over 8 miles out hiking to gather #Bioblitz identification and we were shown the door by this gorgeous specimen, so please enjoy my terrible picture of a wild tom turkey!

Today's tiny joy...out for a walk with some fine folks during an iNaturalist BioBlitz on a retired cattle ranch, and the world still managed to show me something new.💚 As the world spins and wobbles, remember to watch your feet, my friends. 🌿 #iNaturalist #BioBlitz

Far-Red N California somehow has room for this??? Best beloved said it's butt ugly, but then corrected himself because that would be an insult to butts. I just keep imagining the conversation about the vinyl choice: yes, color changing sparkly purple, as long as it's rust-proof?

Wild clematis...my favorite marker of spring 'round here.. 🌿

Bleeding hearts for our times. I hope you find some joy in your day. (If you stand very still and breathe, eventually the birds start back up and the sun rises.)

Am beyond excited to be part of a #keepcaliforniabeautiful grant to beautify a section of our campus and now empowered to choose and acquire the native plants for it!🌱

A #teacher friend reminded me to get outside and find some joy in what isn't actively trying to destroy my entire field and the country we live in...oh and wash that abusive tirade from an angry teen out of my head, too. I'm on 12 miles this week. Can't recommend enough! 🍎 🌿 🌲

Salix (commonly called pussy-willow) buds popping out with spring all over in two looks: soft sulky will kill you later, and fuzzy green, pollen-claws out will kill you now. 📷🌿

This is a weekend appreciation post. My beloved and I went to where no one else wandered and breathed very cold air and risked our cameras in the mist. It was lovely and refreshed my soul.📷

Stopped in the wild woods for a bathroom break. These little jewels were peeking up at me. No idea what might have made just some leaves so bright, but I've decided they are my new style role model. I shall exist in a bright fashion against the background of whatever harshness I encounter.

A solar year ago, we began with a mushroom-hunting romp under a crisp blue sky...ending the solar year under a gray wet sky just bodes well for more mushroom romps in the year to come. May your solstice also bring you optimism and peace as the light returns!

Once, as a very young college student, I loved my pen and ink. In retrospect, my embrace of that glue was a mistake, though. #artadventcalendar

Ten days until winter break: what are the odds I lead all the kids who got to choose one of these through Anthem, The Martian Chronicles, The Langoliers, 1984, Brave New World or Kindred? More specifically, if they do finish one of them, will they ever speak to me again??
