Your entire argument is a "those stinky otaku perverts muscled out us pure, feminist magic girl fans" whine, and not, you know, a discussion of the actual commodification. Where is the analysis of the Pretty Cure franchise? This isn't some niche secret; it's a multi-billion-dollar, year-in-year-out media empire that has dominated the shojo magical girl landscape for over two decades. The reason you don't see a dozen competing magical girl shows every season is precisely because Precure has pretty much taken over the entire market so companies feel no point in competing with them. It's the 800-pound magical girl in the room that you didn't even mention, because it doesn't fit your narrative of a "dying genre" being crushed by Madoka clones. Precure is the mainstream, hyper-merchandised, girl-targeted magical girl product you claim to want, but you were either too lazy to find it or it wasn't "for you" because it's primarily for children. Your analysis is shallow, your history is wrong, and your conclusions are based on a feeling of entitlement rather than a genuine understanding of the medium's ecosystem. You want a new Sailor Moon or Utena but demonstrate no knowledge of the industry forces that created them or sustain their modern equivalents. You made a poorly researched blog post read aloud, filled with bad-faith arguments, chronological illiteracy, and a stubborn refusal to engage with the actual, complex, and yes, often commodified reality of the genre you're pretending to critique.

You bemoan the lack of "empowering" magical girl series while displaying a staggering ignorance of the genre's history and current landscape. Where is the discussion of the actual roots? You mention the '60s but completely ignore seminal works like Sally the Witch or Minky Momo, which are wildly important. Minky Momo, in particular, with its theme of a magical girl transforming into various working women in the economic bubble era of the 80s, is a fascinating piece of social commentary that completely dismantles your simplistic "empowerment vs. objectification" binary. But you wouldn't know about that, because people like you don't know don't know or don't care, because it wouldn't register as anything special to someone like you coming into 2025 without understanding the time and place it came from, or even giving a damn about it in the first place.

Yet, on screen, you show that Cutie Honey was released nearly twenty years before Sailor Moon. Like, do you hear yourself? Do you not realise the contradiction? Your thesis is dead on arrival, killed by your own evidence. Cutie Honey wasn't some corruption; it was a foundational, co-existing strand of the genre that embraced a different, more action-pulp aesthetic from the start, often created by men who also worked on shows like Devilman. Your understanding of the "otaku" is a Western-weeb caricature, stripped of all its historical and economic context. You flatten it into a simple "male pervert" boogeyman, which is analytically useless. You seem completely unaware that "yuri" and queer-coded relationships, which you praise in Madoka and Utena, are incredibly popular with male otaku. The Madoka Magica doujinshi scene was and is massive, and a significant portion of it is created by and for men. The "otaku gaze" you decry is often the very same economic force that financially enables the production of the queer subtext you're celebrating. You can't have it both ways. Furthermore, your rigid, literalist reading of demographic labels is a tell-tale sign of someone who doesn't actually engage with the medium deeply. Shows like Black Butler and Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun are published in shonen magazines but are overwhelmingly consumed and created for a female audience. The labels are marketing guides, not iron-clad genetic codes, and any real analysis would understand that.
