Man, I really need to finish watching Ganbaruger.
I also feel like it needs more fanfics; last I checked, to my utter disgust, the only ones I could find were all NSFW despite being centered on the show's underage protagonists.

Still waiting for AO3 to go back up; fortunately, the Evangelion/Gurren Lagann crossover fic I was re-reading is also on FanFiction.net.
In essence, rather than simply using AI to create visual "art", the creator of "Angel Engine" was instead using Ai-generated images to supplement human-made narrative art, and only when it was the best available option in terms of quality.

An example of subjectively passable use of AI images is the "Angel Engine" TikTok series. The story and plot were written by a human, and AI illustrations were only used until the creator could afford to commission a human artist to do the job.

The objectively bad parts of generative AI imaging are: AI companies scraping data from art on the internet without artists' permission; people posting AI "art" by itself to pass of as real art; and large corporations using AI to replace paid artists.

I prefer to call it "AI illustration", since it isn't actually art. And I feel like it's a bit more nuanced than simply "AI image generation is bad".
