I totally get being put off by the tone leaning further toward horror though. It's a LOT creepier than the original game.

Argh, I really wanna say stuff about this, but really don't want to spoil the thing - but I will say... the sort of solutions you found in the main game are still in the DLC. It isn't just some survival horror thing. You can avoid *all* of the direct confrontations and scares (which is what I did).
