I mean, this image talk by herself, here is Kaede in swimsuit, anime vs manga, for the same scene... So yeah, the anime is way over the top in term of ecchi in comparaison to the manga ^^'. But despite that, the anime still carry the wholesome and cuteness that the manga have too.

starting age might have a role to play in it. Two exemple I have with "I don't care" are Tanya Degurechaff and Ren (see images), both were adult men past 30 and if Tanya remember directly, Ren awoken her memories after 10 years as a girl. Maybe the maturity have an impact in this kind of stories.
Tanya the evil follow the story of a salary man who don't believe in god, reincarned by god himself into a world in war to force him to believe in god (yeah that's twisted). But in the story, Tanya accept herself as Tanya and just live her life like she can, she don't mind being a girl or don't reject the idea if I remember correctly. Ren leave as an orphan girl for 10 years before an accident awoken her memories, she was a scientist man in his 30's on earth. She accept the fact to be a woman or rather, having a woman body, there is a lot of ecchi in it and Ren is pretty horny for the other ladies.

I wonder... Could the platypus be an enby animal symbol ? I mean, it's a mammal that lay eggs, have poison, a beak and webbed feet like a duck. It is out of the spectrum of the mammal, so it would make sense (plus, it is cute).
