I'm just bumbling my way through life looking for cool rocks, bugs, and birds. I enjoy microscopy and photography. I wish I had more time to read and make art, but I'm making due with the time and energy that I do have.

This is a butterfly wing from the sample bank our microscopy lab had. I'm using a tabletop SEM so my images aren't world class, but I've seen some interesting things I'd like to share. Specs are on the bottom. Enjoy!
Something about the bird ecosystem in grocery store parking lots that make errands better.

Here's an interesting video I stumbled upon. It's especially interesting for me because it's related to the history surrounding spots in Utah and the surrounding states.

Here's some slag metal from earlier this week. I'm loving all the micropatterns you can see in the steel. Scale bar in the lower right, the average human hair is ~75 um.

I put a pigeon feather in the SEM, and now I want to look at more kinds of feathers to see if they curl the same way. I love nature.

We shouldn't have as many people becoming sick and disabled as we are. Some changes have been adopted so quickly that lifestyle changes are already needed to fix the core issues.

Thank you for livestreaming in Utah today! @sanders.senate.gov @aoc.bsky.social

I had planned to sit in line early and read this (I was at Bernie's last Salt Lake City rally, so I can imagine the line today). However, my health and life got in the way. I appreciate still being able to watch!

Man, I wish we had a leader half as good as Zelenskyy. I'm cheering him on for standing up to the septic cheeto, although I wish he didn't have to deal with our baggage.

So I'm finally getting into Star Trek, and I've started with Voyager. Y'all, there are some hard-hitting episodes. Season 3 episodes 5 and 6 have aged a little too well in my opinion 😅 I met the Ferengi for the first time and oof 😂

Vanadinite with mineral oil. You can see the oil so clearly because of the differences in atomic weight. Vanadinite is mostly lead and vanadium, while mineral oil is carbon and hydrogen.

Y'all I am tired, have some Crocoite. Mined in Australia, nabbed in Arizona. The world is exhausting, but for now, I can retreat to my lab with my silly little rocks.
