A Thing I've Played

Outer Wilds

This is.. so good.
You play as the inhabitant of a (very small) solar system, trying to figure out what the hell is going on. And that's all I can say without spoilers.

A Thing I've Read 15/2025
Shift (Silo II), by Hugh Howey

The second book of the Silo trilogy is just as much of a page-turner as the first one.
It starts in more-or-less current times and expands along several locations and timeslines on the background of the setting, ...

A Thing I've (re-)Read 14/24
Stories Of Your Life and others, by Ted Chiang
After Eclipse I felt a need to re-read the titular Stories Of Your Life, which was the inspiration for Contact, which was an inspiration for Eclipse. And then I already had the thing open, so why not.

A Thing I've Read 13/25
Wool (Silo I), by Hugh Howey
The world is a giant underground silo. The outside is toxic. The order of society must be preserved at all costs, lest humanities last outpost crumbles to dust. Of course nothing goes ever wrong.

A Thing I've Read 12/25
Piranesi, by Susanna Clarke

I've decided to read this one after the good people of Poltergeist announced a larp based on it and a lot of people were very excited, and now I do see why.

A Thing I've (re-)Read 11/25
Harrow the Ninth, by Tamsyn Muir
The second time around this book continues to be an absolute fever dream, but knowing what's coming (and maybe a few hours of wiki-binging beforehand) really did help to make a lot more sense of everything.

A Thing I've Listened To
The Watcher in the Rain, by Alec Worley

I think someone recommended this w40k audio horror story to me, at some point? Anyway, I've finally managed to listen, and it's a solid story with excellent production design, ...

A Thing I've (re-) Read 10/25
Faery Apocalypse, by Jason Franks

On a whim I've re-read this story of a bunch of mortals visiting faeryland and bringing all sorts of doom to it.
Still a good and easy read, but obviously a rather dark one.

A Thing I've Read 09/25
Radicalized by Cory Doctorow
A collection of four dystopian novellas that's been on my list for ages, and they've not aged a day since release. Especially the titular radicalized, about an armed uprising against the US healthcare system...

A Thing I've Watched 06/25
Love, Death, and Robots S04

It was... alright? I feel a bit like the concept has run its course and maybe it's time to get off the horse while it's still alive.

A Thing I've Read 04/25
Machine Vendetta, by Alastair Reynolds
The third and so far last Prefect Dreyfus Emergency brings me finally back to the point of having read everything Revelation Space.

A Thing I've Played: Assassin's Creed Origins
On the one hand, there's not a lot to say. It's an Assassin's Creed game. It's set in Ancient Egypt in an attempt to tell the story of how things came to be, backfilling the series-defining artefacts away from being biblical into being ancient.

A Thing I've Read 03/25
Frostbite, by Nicola Twilly
A book about refrigeration, the history thereof, and it's impact on every single part of the food chain.
A good read, with tons of interesting things to learn along the way.

A Thing I've Watched 03/25
Arcane Season 02
How dare, Riot. HOW? DARE!?
The second season is every bit as excellent as the first one. Animation, music, story, style, everything.

A Thing I Watched 02/25
Arcane S01 (re-watch)
This thing holds up as perfectly on the second run as on the first, and oh boi did I forget how constantly hard-hitting this was.
Hopefully I'll now manage to ge relatively quickly into S02, finally.

Never Mind the Gig Work… Here’s the Coffeebots!
A "reconstruction of the filmed version of a puppet play that was never performed" by the c-atre collective, this open-source play (link below) follows a group of coffee-bots unhappy with their working conditions...

A Thing I've Read 02/25
Terminal Boredom: Stories, by Izumi Suzuki

A (translated) collection of science-fiction short stories, none of which is actively bad, but also none of which really connected with me. I also found them pretty uncomfortable at times.
